Seriously...almost the end of week 2 and we have done knish, Nada, nothing!
In some ways that's fine, we were happy without the car and in the heat last week to chill in the paddle/splash pool. This week is another story though, I've wanted to get busy but them old bones just weren't willing to lend a hand :)
Finally Thursday we made it out the house and to West Wycombe Park, so where oh where are the photo's you might well ask?
Well I apologise as I forgot the camera! Half way there we realised I had left it behind, fully charged on the kitchen side.
*sigh*
You'll just have to take my word for it...
we tried to get a tour of the house but after the 3rd room it became clear Fonzy is too young to stand or sit still quietly to listen to the guide. Rather than ruin it for the others in the group we made our excuses and beat a retreat to the grounds.
They are immense...many, many period dramas and films have used the house and grounds for location, it was easy to see why. Just the right amount of shabby chic on the outside of the buildings to lend them character, well kept sweeping lawns, a rather splendid lake to name a couple of the joys we found in the pouring rain today!
Oh how it rained, we left in the sun and arrived to the rain.
To be honest it didn't ruin it for us, just made us feel like intrepid explorers out in the wet wild forests. RV and Loopy loved being able to roam the little woodland freely, keeping an eye on Fonzy and I through the gaps.
We saw I would say a 1/4 to 1/2 of the grounds and will definitely be back on a dry day to see the rest...
sadly no picnics are allowed in the park? I guess as it is still a home the thought of having others litter strewn across your lawn is a bit much {not that we would drop litter but you know what I mean}
However we can always take our picnic up the hill to West Wycombe Hill which houses the Disraeli mausoleum and family church {which opens on high days and where Kate Winslet married her 1st husband don't you know!}
Also home to the Hell Fire Caves, {the best place to spend Halloween for younger, brave teenagers} but they really are very deep, steep, dark and scarey for younger ones so we won't be popping in {although they are the coolest place in the heat}
I really hope the weather holds out next week and that I can shake this 'bug' properly, as I would love a trip to Cliveden which appears to offer more for families...if the weather is wet then we'll stay local and take a trip to Hughenden Manor.
The older kiddos have all had the chance to visit it with the school but I've only ever been at Halloween where we listened to spooky ghost stories in the old ice house {brilliant} and spooked our way around the gardens!
I also realised that we've still not yet done our pick your own trip yet and with all the wet weather we have missed our window...they close on Mondays so we'll see whats left on Tuesday perhaps?
No real 'plans', ideas forming but winging it as always!
