Once upon a time...twenty years ago a young girl just 21 had herself a beautiful baby girl. She blinked once and it was the first birthday, she blinked again and was then a mama to two beautiful children, she blinked again and had a found herself the happy mama to 3 children.
She found what most mamas find that children grow so quickly, she found an amazing capacity to love them all with all her heart.
She blinked again and was a happy mama to four fantastic children. She blinked her way through the nightmare that was the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes for her eldest. She cried at times at the unfairness but marveled daily at her daughters strength.
The mama blinked and saw her family grow to six.
Realising that she missed so much when she blinked she kept making the vow not to blink any more...no more blinking became one of her mantras.
But as we know blinking happens...children grow.
Teens are funny creatures, strong and independant yet still vulnerable, to watch them grow from tiny babies to toddlers, through to pre-schoolers, to the inquisitive7/8 year olds through to teens is quite a wonderful journey
One day the mama awoke to realise that her eldest was no longer a young teen or even an older teen but a strong and quite incredible woman.
She realised that she hadn't always done things 'right' but held up her hands to doing the best she could at the time. She realised with quite a shock that she was still so incredibly protective of this grown woman, that the capacity to love her didn't lessen as her daughter grew but that it grew too!
Abba I doubt that you ever read the blog, I know it doesn't rock your boat but I am so very happy and proud to be your mama
We may not be your huggy, kissy kind of family but we all love you so very, very much
